Reframing the School Funding Narrative: From Adequacy to Reparations

Southwest Baltimore Charter School
Saturday 7/13/2019 - 2:15pm to 3:45pm - Room: Carlson 122
In this workshop we’ll explore the ways funding for public schools are problematically framed by the media, politicians, and even progressive advocates. Using Gloria Ladson-Billings “Education Debt” narrative, and Baltimore City as a case study, we will explore decades of unconstitutional funding theft by the state. Then, using modern cognitive neuroscience, we will provide practical tools for transforming the narrative from an ahistorical standard of adequacy, to an accumulation of past debts requiring reparations now.
