30 years ago, 34 artist-activists painted 26 murals in Balmy Alley to express their opposition to US intervention in Central America and to celebrate culture, identity, and resistance in San Francisco’s Mission District. These Walls Speak: PLACA tells the histories and legacies of one of the most famous mural alleys in the world. We remember not for the sake of memory, but because history lives.
