Laurel Bell, Andrevea Perkins, DaJane Cage and D'Aria Pitts - Code Switch
Friday 7/12/2019 - 3pm to 4:30pm - Room: Carlson 136
Societal standards of beauty proclaim that the closer girls and women are to a size 0, abled-bodiness, gender conformity, and whiteness the more beautiful they are. This session employs a Code Switch restorative sister circle to provoke critique on traditional constructions of beauty. Participants use storytelling and creative artistic expression to examine how societal standards of beauty shape definitions of self, relationships with others, and experiences in classrooms and schools. Though relevant for all, it will center the experiences of Black girls and women.
