Do well-intentioned popular educators reinforce oppression when working with young people? Do they struggle with how to adequately grapple with trauma and violence faced by youth living on the margins? To explore these questions, panelists will draw on the insights of youth of color from one organizing network in New York City to unpack the vision youth have for their social justice praxis and how they negotiate relationships and issues of power when working with adults. We will discuss the responsibilities of youth and adults to hold healing-centered and trauma-based curriculum in popular education models. (Note: this is a research presentation.)
