Kim Trueheart, Keysha Goodwin
Liberty Village Project
Friday, 2:15 pm - 3:45 pm -- Maryland 201

Two engaged community members have embarked on separate initiatives to strengthen parent and community involvement at two different Baltimore City public schools, one on the east side of town and one on the west. These women Ms. Kim Trueheart and Ms. Keysha Goodwin both graduates of the Baltimore City Public School System will discuss their initiatives, the goals and desired outcomes as well as discuss the challenges and barriers that exist both within their respective schools, the local school district and the neighborhoods that surround their schools. During the discussion they will identify the inequities and systemic conditions that make their work especially challenging from the outside of the bureaucracy which has historically thwarted the simple concept of empowered students, teachers, parents and community.
