Uncovering the Racial Kinetics Underlying Instruction in a Classroom

Participants undertake a praxis – informed by Myosha McAfee’s (2014) Kinesiology of Race framework – to discern how racial patterns emerged in one teacher’s class grades. The pedagogy of this praxis rests on two Freirian principles: 1) “acts of cognition, not transferrals of information,” and 2) “reflection on action upon the world in order to transform it.” Accordingly, participants probe excerpts from actual lessons, engaging in dialectical thought about the racial kinetics her research shows underlie instruction.
