Youth Justice: Using Restorative Circles and Youth Court for Student-to-Student Accountability

Saturday, 9:30 am to 11:00 am -- Rm.

Jesse Bethel High School’s concern about the use of suspension and expulsion as primary methods to manage student behavior prompted the development of an alternative to address this social justice issue. Recognizing students as the majority on campus with an enormous and relatively untapped body of knowledge, Jesse Bethel administration identified Youth Justice as an opportunity for students to participate in supporting their peers to make more positive choices. Working with current Law Academy students, this workshop will include simulations of both the “Youth Court” and “Restorative Justice” processes.
