Art Changes People and People Change the World // Using the Arts to Inspire Human Rights Change

Michaela Miragliotta
Art Resistance Through Education (ARTE)
Saturday, 11:15 pm to 12:45 pm -- Knott Hall 005

Some of the most creative and innovative human rights and social justice campaigns have used the arts as a tool for activism and making social change. Throughout the world, artists and activists have successfully engaged the public using the powerful combination of public arts and memorable messages of social justice and human rights. Art and Resistance Through Education (ARTE) works with young people to learn about and advocate for human rights issues through art, giving them the tools to stand up for themselves, their communities, and others facing adversity and rights violations around the world. During this session, participants will have the opportunity to experience this first-hand, exploring different artistic mediums to address human rights issues of their choosing in an interactive group project.
