Art and Activism

Duane "Shorty" Davis
Baltimore Bloc
Saturday, 11:15 pm to 12:45 pm -- Maryland 058

Come meet a well-respected activist and advocate in Baltimore. Duane "Shorty" Davis was voted "Best Baltimorean" in the City Paper in 2016. This session is a hands-on, interactive art creation for social justice using a toilet as our canvas. The toilet is a legal form of activism under public accommodations and freedom of speech. I will bring some of my completed toilets as examples of art as activism. I want us to create 5 toilets for 5 issues that directly affect the people in the conference. After the toilets are completed, I wish to auction them off to raise money for homelessness, prison reform, and social justice issues to reinvest in the Baltimore community.
