Exclusion to Empowerment: Communities redefining the role of parks

PaHoua Lee, Francis Taroc, and Kelsi Ju (Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy – Crissy Field Center)
Friday 7/12/2019 - 1:15pm to 2:45pm - Room: Blegen 415
The Crissy Field Center is the only youth social justice center in the National Park Service system, and national parks have historically excluded communities of color. Our programs focus on youth from these communities and provide a model to make parks a place for supporting communities to make a change in the historical trend. We start with a community’s needs and use our resources to empower them, offering free or reduced-fee programs, and also provide stipends to youth participants. Join us to participate in activities we teach our youth and see art and media work our youth have produced.
